Thirty years ago, in the wet tropics of Far North Queensland, we were wrestling with tourism challenges and conceptualising destinations as living systems with complex flows, nodes, and adaptive processes. The work wasn't perfect and the system didn't want to know, but the thinking existed and share it here.

In this regenerative tourism case study we explore 'Up The Creek', a nature-based experience located on the river systems around Narrm/Melbourne, offering immersive, low-impact, reflective river journeys. The business was born out of a desire to reconnect people with place, nature, and to introduce participants to a More Than Human World.
