Learning, Sharing, and Experimenting Together

Why we need communities of practice?
A Community of Practice is a place of cross-pollination – where your experience in tourism meets someone's work in community development, where alternative kinds of knowledge meets innovation, where questions matter as much as answers.
In the CoLab Community, we believe that true wisdom emerges when we honour the diverse knowledge and experience that each person brings.
That's why we've created a community of practice as a welcoming hub for genuine exchange – not just networking, not just theory, but real practice and honest conversation about what we're actually experiencing in our work in reimagining, designing and experimenting with new forms of hosting and guesting for the future.

Who is the Community for?
-
Tourism professionals who understand business-as-usual is no longer enough and that we need to change
-
Economic development professionals who realise community wellbeing is inextricably linked to the capacity of a place to thrive
-
Community leaders navigating the tension between visitor economies and local needs and aspirations
-
Business owners wanting to understand their relationship with nature beyond certifications and ecolabels
-
Destination managers grappling with how they can do things differently and earn social licence
-
Early career professionals sensing a better way is about connecting and learning from each other.
Why Join our Community of Practice?
Whether you're just beginning to question what the future of tourism looks like, or you're already deep into reimagining your work, your place, or your organisation, having a community of fellow pathfinders, practitioners and activators makes all the difference.
Membership is for those who recognise the value of being in community, showing up regularly, and engaging with a global network of regenerative practitioners. We can provide ongoing learning opportunities that fit your schedule, and peer support as you navigate real challenges, and connection with practitioners who understand the complexity of regenerative work.

What's Inside?

"I've never experienced it before, never ever like in a course or at work, because you always have to follow, never question. In the CoLab is so different. It’s the structure, and how you give space for discussions. It usually doesn’t work like that. I mean, if there's questions coming up, they're always dismissed because, no, we don't have time. It's an interesting question, but we don't have time to discuss it. But, I mean, now is the moment. Now is the moment when the question is here. It's now. We have to discuss it, not later."
Mona, Norway (2025)
"I am finding my work definitely easier because of the Tourism CoLab... I think that what I am doing is innately regenerative... but what I'm getting out of the course is an understanding and there is strength in community. I'm also getting links to some roots that can sort of stabilize the tree."
Derek, Naarm/Melbourne (2025)
"I think I own it now. You know, I live each day with beautiful authenticity...the more that you're true to your values, and the more that you speak to those values in all your daily interactions with people, the more that you then start to connect with others that share those values. It's the right path for my business but I have to learn to be less annoyed by others who aren't there yet."
Paul, Romania (2024)
Who

We are an inclusive community of practice. We invite anyone interested in genuinely exploring the future of the visitor economy and the systems of which it is a part. We honour the knowledge you bring to the community and we enjoy holding space for the insights and reflections that emerge. The community brings together all kinds of people, different kinds of experience, and seeks to cross traditional sectoral boundaries.
If you have an interest in regenerative places and communities then you will find a home on this community.
Why

The world is changing. The old industrial paradigm is breaking down. It's in our interest to understand what this means and how to respond and build readiness. Local communities are questioning the social licence of the industry, greenwashing is on the rise, and traditional solutions are fragile. While travel is part of our human condition, we need to ensure that we stay within our ecological and social limits.
This isn't a political project, it's an opportunity to understand what is going on and to build readiness for the change ahead.
