About Us
Pioneering Regenerative Design and Tourism Since 2018
The Tourism CoLab took root in 2018 with a deep belief in tourism's power to connect travellers, communities, and nature. We saw how travel, when thoughtfully cultivated, could transform our relationship with the planet and help us find our place in a rapidly changing world.
Founded in 2019 as regenerative tourism was emerging into mainstream conversation, we've grown into two intertwined threads: a global learning community and place-based practice that puts tourism back into its broader context.
Our Mission: Catalysing Change From the Ground Up
The Tourism CoLab is a social enterprise with an ambitious goal to change the conversation from tourism as an industrial sector to tourism as place-based regenerative development. We're disrupting tourism from the ground up by providing thought leadership, learning journeys, professional development, and demonstration projects that bring regenerative design alive.We are driving paradigmatic change in mindsets, culture, organisation, systems and values – moving from an extractive industry to one that genuinely contributes to the regeneration of places, people and nature.

Beyond Traditional Thinking
We challenge the limitations of scientific management and reductionist thinking that have dominated tourism. Instead, we embrace tourism as a complex adaptive system that requires evolutionary, collaborative approaches rather than linear strategic solutions.
Head-Heart-Gut Intelligence
Our approach taps into whole-body intelligence, combining analytical thinking with heart (values-based) wisdom and intuitive knowing. We believe the mindset shift happens through experiential learning that allows people to feel the community, connect with nature, and understand our responsibilities.
Community-Centred Practice
We work with tourism organisations, governments, communities and business networks to build resilience, co-design and activate destinations, tourism organisations and visitor economies for regenerative, inclusive, and nature-positive futures.

We are all practitioners and global thought leaders is regenerative development and tourism, and have decades of experience working across contexts, cultures, and countries. What makes our collective truly unique is that we are not consultants but have spent time thoughtfully developing our practice, generously sharing it with others, and showing the way by doing.
